I think one needs to have a specific reason to visit Milan. For me it was a short break en-route to Venice. It would appeal mostly to fashionistas, seriously moneyed shoppers, and those interested in Lombardy history and culture. And, of course, Leonardo da Vinci. A guided tour is the only way to see The Last Supper if you haven't booked ahead. I wouldn't go back to Milan, but da Vinci is reason enough for any traveler to visit. It is also better connected by air than Venice, and only just over 2 hours by rail from that gem of a city.
Milan is worth a visit for many reasons. I will mention my favorite four: 1) It is very good for sightseeing and exhibitions. Don't miss Duomo square with its beautiful Gothic cathedral (you can pay a ticket and go up to the roof for a nice view of the city from the top). Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, just off Duomo square, is also worth a visit: just look up and enjoy the outstanding beauty of this gallery. Milan is also home to The Last Supper, a 15th-century mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci that you can visit in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie (you need to plan your visit in advance). Also, you may want to check out the rich offer of temporary exhibitions (Palazzo Reale is my favorite cultural center in Milan) and museums. 2) Milan is Italy’s fashion capital and is a great place for clothing, shoes and jewelry shopping. Enjoy a stroll down Corso Vittorio Emanuele (just next to the Duomo) for a selection of Italian as well as international brands. For luxury shopping, explore Via Della Spiga and Via Montenapoleone. Milan is also well known for interior design. 3) Milan is strategically placed in Lombardy: if you have a few days to spend in Northern Italy, a beautiful lake area lies north of Milan (Lake, Como, Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore). 4) The food! Milan offers an incredible selection of Italian as well as international cuisine. Enjoy!
Bergamo is a large city, but most of everything that you want to see is in the old city and can easily be done in one day. We used the city as our base, and traveled by car to do some hiking in the surrounding villages. Highly suggest Lombardy for hiking! We could have easily spent an entire week or more just hiking and eating amazing local food!
Bergamo is a pretty and ordered city, bigger than a town but still small enough to be able to get around mostly on foot. The Citta Alta is beautiful and an absolute must-see - the narrow cobblestone streets and imposing buildings, domes and structures are everywhere, with lots of little shops and pretty restaurants dotted about. It is perfect for a romantic stroll or an exploratory trip down the little alleys - take the bus no. 1 which goes all the way up for some breathtaking views of the city on the way! Having said that, Bergamo also feels very deserted and almost like a ghost town as soon as evening arrives. (We spent a Sunday and Monday evening there - it could be that it is livelier on a Friday or Saturday.) There are hardly any people in the streets, and most bus services stop at 8 or 9pm, which makes it difficult to go back to your accommodation easily after a long day spent out (unless you are willing to pay for a taxi, of which there are surely some but we have not really seen any about town). There is also a surprising lack of grocery shops - we walked around a lot and didn't spot a single one! This may not be an issue if you have meals included in your stay or are happy eating in restaurants/ordering takeaway, but it is something to bear in mind. Generally the city is very quiet and not many places are open too late, so take this into account when making plans. Apart from the Citta Alta and possibly the city centre, there is not too much else to see or do in our experience - one or two days spent in Bergamo seem sufficient. Overall, this is a nice enough place to visit but maybe not on its own due to its lack of significant things to do. We rented a car and visited Milano and Como from our base in Bergamo, and for this purpose it was perfect - so combine it with a few other places on your next trip to Lombardy and you should not be disappointed!
Cassinetta di Lugagnano is a picturesque and historic village, halfway between Magenta and Abbiategrasso, in the Lombardy countryside. It is a nice, quiet rural escape. There is not much shopping or nightlife in Cassinetta di Lugagnano, but it is a good base to explore the area and nearby towns. There is a great bike path nearby along the Naviglio Grande canal (built 1157 AD), you can easily reach historic Abbiategrasso, and if adventurous, you can ride to down to the River Ticino Park. There is a good, new restaurant in the village called Antica Osteria Del Ponte, not cheap but of a high quality. You can reach Cassinetta di Lugagnano by local bus via Magenta or Abbiategrasso if you don't want to hire a car: it only took 50 minutes and 7 euro to get there from Milano Centrale Station. Milano Malpensa airport is closer, but you have to go via Milano unless you travel by car or taxi.
Beautiful Citta Alta well worth a look with fantastic panoramic views of the Alpine foothills and the Lombardy plains. I would even recommend using this as a base for a visit to Milan, rather than staying in Milan itself, as there are plenty of affordable trains and buses to Milan. Bergamo airport is easy to reach by bus from the town centre and acts as Ryanair hub.
Cremona is a truly charming town between Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna, encompassed by the rivers Adda, Oglio, part of the Serio and the Po, with a population of roughly 73,000 people. The architecture is very pretty and full of small delicate details. The city itself is famous for production of high quality violeis and is a kind of lutists paradise.
Really safe to get around as I was travelleling on my own (an elder lemon). Citta Alta was gorgeous and trains which I took to other parts of Lombardy were very close.
This city is so cool. Every where happy people, music, wonderful squares full of light and stylish buildings. The people are so warm, kind ando helpful. The centre of this city is full of light, music, nice bar, restaurant, pubs. I think that is one of the coolest city where you can stop in Lombardy. I really appreciate my staying. I will definitely come to Brescia again.
Nice city. Citta alta is very interesting with its medieval architecture. Citta bassa is also nice. Location of Bergamo is very good for exploring Lombardy.
Riva di Solto
The apartment is the perfect spot to stay near the beautiful Lago d’Iseo, with a stunning view of the lake, mountains and Monte Isola. It is also a great starting point for trips around that part of Lombardy, including Bergamo, Brescia, Clusone or the Nemro-Selvino mountain road. Actually, the entire region is within range of a one-day trip. We had great contact with the owner, the apartment was clean, fully equipped and everything looked fresh and new. Having a designated parking spot was also very convenient.
Very good hotel to use as a base to see both Bergamo (city centre is within walking distance) and the broader Lombardy region - train station is about 10 min walk away and from there you can get convenient connections to various destinations (Milan, Como, Verona etc.). The hotel itself is perfectly fine - quite new, well maintained and comfortable. Also, reception desk staff was really kind and helpful.
Sesto San Giovanni
The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious, it has a washing machine, and a good wardrobe, is good for someone going to work or has a conference, or people with no interest in going to city centre daily. There are a good amount of shops near by, and some cheap restaurants, which is handy. A train station is also 3 blocks away and is good to connect with the lakes or other areas of Lombardy.
Rozzano
Very clean and organised place, with a very convenient location for people visiting Northern Italy especially the region of Lombardy. Un grazie speciale a Paolo e Nancy nel lobby e Katia/Nicoletta per le camere!
Staff were so friendly. food and drink was great. facilities were brilliant. The kids entertainment team absolutely made the trip, provided so many great memories for our little boy.
- room with view on the Garda lake - comfortable room and bathroom - staff: great - designer entrance, very relaxing ( water fall and light tree in particular) - breakfast absolutely perfect - inside heated swimming pool with water massage
Service, view, garden, swimming pools, beach bar, parking Service extremely nice guys, attention to details

Absolutely fantastic place to relax and relax-charge. Felt completely secluded and private but then a short walk and elevator ride and you‘re right on the lake. Phenomenal! Will absolutely return.
Room was large and very comfortable. Also restaurant cuisine very good.
They had 2 bathrooms. Very clean. Pretty water front. Beds were comfortable. Great value

Baia Verde is perfect place to relax! Quiet neighborhood, camping is right on the beach and lake. The cottages are beautiful, well-equipped, very spacious. The camping staff was very helpful. It was great to visit this place before the season. I would recommend this place to everyone! We will definitely be back! :)
