Oh my God - this Bed and Breakfast at Gallo Manor Executive far exceeded anything that we were expecting! We had 2 quick nights passing through Johannesburg from Victoria Falls on our way to a tour of Eswatini; so we were not particularly fussy about our accommodation except that it had to be safe and clean. But boy! this place was just full of superlatives. First, it is about only 30 minutes from the Oliver Tambo airport and within a secure gated community with 24 private security protection. Plus, the area police station is right across the main road from the gated community. Second, the facility has its own generator which cushions the inconvenient load-shedding power outages that is now a fact of life all over South Africa. But one of the real privileges of staying at this property is the uber-beautiful garden in the back which itself overlooks an adjacent golf course. The garden has its own small waterfall and rivulet running into a handsome koi pond stocked with the most beautiful koi. But what we will remember as much as the gardens is the superb personal touch and service extended by the owners, Trevor and Angie, and their staff. Our room was appointed with every convenience you could want and would find in a regular 4 star hotel. The breakfast was a la carte and sumptuous; you could order just about anything you wanted and they made it just the way you like it. Moreover, Trevor has an intimate knowledge of Johannesburg and directed us to a wonderful evening dining in Mandela Square under the gaze of the giant statue of Nelson Mandela while watching the hip Joburg crowd on a Saturday evening. The next day he organized a car and driver and helped us plan a most wonderful day visiting Lesedi Cultural Village and then ending the day at the fun and glitzy Sun City Resort. To cap it all, Trevor was up the next day at 4:30am to meet us and to make sure we got to the airport on time for our 6:50am flight. Thank you so much Trevor and Angie!
