The Hermitage Hotel Mt Cook, hotel in Mount Cook Village

Set in Mount Cook National Park, The Hermitage Hotel features a range of rooms and suites all offering majestic mountain views, and most with views of Mount Cook.

The only redeeming feature of this hotel is if you get a good room that has an exceptional view of the mountains ahead. Other than that I would never ever stay here.

Haka House Aoraki Mt Cook, hotel in Mount Cook Village

Situated Among the Southern Alps, Haka House Aoraki Mt Cook features views of Mount Cook, and is 200 metres from Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre.

We stayed in twin room with windows overlooking mountains. Very comfortable stay. This was our first experience of sharing bathroom but it went very well. The location is perfect and Hooker Valley track was just 5 mins drive. Overall we highly recommend Haka House.

Mount Cook Station Shearers Quarters Lodge, hotel in Mount Cook Village

Featuring garden views, Mount Cook Station Shearers Quarters Lodge in Lake Tekapo features accommodation, a garden, barbecue facilities and a shared lounge.

The place is lovely and in the middle of nature, the best we had on our 10 days trip on the south island. We stayed in 'Tom's hut', this is detached from the main building but right next to it. The hut is very cosy and the heating is very strong. We also really liked the common areas with the big kitchen and the fireplace with firewood. While staying there, we hiked across the farm and beyond on land that's not public to enjoy the beautiful scenery, a unique experience. Thanks Alana for being so helpful and for her kids showing us the farm animals :)

We did a 19 day road trip around the lower North Island, and Mount Cook Village was my favourite place to stay. Id love to go back again some time. Sadly for us due to being delayed due to issues with the interislander we only got to stay here for one night. We took an amazing scenic flight and landed on the Tasman glacier. We had the perfect day for it. The smorgasbord restaurant at the Hermitage was fantastic, one of the better smorgasbord's Ive had. I would love to come back here some day and do some of the shorter walks around the area and just to experience this majestic place once more.

Being able to see the glacier from the top part of the village. Our fantastic day trip to Lake Tasman to get close to icebergs and and the glacier at one end of the lake. (not the glacier seen from the village).

The village is located in an amazing place. If are self catering while in the village you will need to bring your supplies with you. There is very limited grocery items for sale. There is a cafe and restaurant located in the Hermitage complex. The other dining places are closed.

There is limited accommodation at Mount Cook village and it is all expensive. There are many well marked and maintained paths from the road end which allow walks off between one hour and six hours to be safely undertaken. There are no shops or independent restaurants or food outlets, unless you are self catering, you will have to eat in the expensive hotels. The most economical way to visit would be by Campervan bringing all of your supplies with you The self catering options are limited to the motel, which is in my opinion, overpriced for the accommodation it offers.

I did not like Mt Cook Village at all. Hard to get around.

I did not like Mt Cook Village at all. Hard to get around. Nowhere to buy food or snacks and restaurant closed during the day. Inflated prices. I think our experience would have been much better but unfortunately the weather was dreadful and hence we had no views and were unable to do our planned walk. All in all it was a very disappointing experience.

Mt Cook is a remote location and this hotel is amongst the only ones there. We had booked a 2 bedroom villa - excellent views of the snow capped mountains, very friendly reception staff , easy to pick up keys even a little late, car parking in front of the villa. The house is well insulated , irrespective of the temperatures outside. Comfy beds, neat, clean , daily service provided . We didnt go to the restuarants so cant comment on those . The best was the jaccuzi -most relaxing after the trek.

The location is great if you're staying in Mount Cook, with it only being < 5-minute walk from the Hermitage hotel. Keep in mind though, it's important to make sure you bring your own food if you want to avoid the overpriced buffet service at the Hermitage hotel. The lodge has a kitchen space on level 2 that you can leverage to save money.

With limited food available at Aoraki, the Lodge allows and promotes a self-catered stay. There was a microwave and small bar fridge in the room and then additional fridges, stoves and facilities in the common area. It's in the heart of the village, close to the information centre and shirt stroll to the Hermitage Edmond Hillary Centre.

Location was good. As there, we couldn't find any grocery store, we were told bring our requirements along with us. This is somewhat cumbersome. Excepting a cafe there are no restaurants. Otherwise you need to spend good money in an expensive restaurant inside a very good hotel at Aoraki Village.

In Mount Cook village are no possibilities to go out at night. This is why everyone in the hostel is gathering in the community areas and as a solo traveller you get easily in touch with other travellers. Very clean, very well equipped. Even offer blankets in case you get cold.

Great view for the rooms looking toward mountains. The shower was nice, modern and large. The three course dinner at the main hotel (Hermitage) was outstanding! Views from the bar before dinner was also unbeatable on a clear day

This is about as good as it gets for a YHA hostel. The interior of the hostel has a cool wilderness lodge vibe to it, the dorms are clean and comfortable, and the beds have curtains for privacy.
