Hugging the Ligurian coastline, Genoa boasts Europe’s largest old town and Italy’s largest seaport. As birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico) are several bars and restaurants serving the local speciality – pesto. Other Genoese favourites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade – Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighbourhood, where colourful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the old town with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the ‘Superb City’. Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodation, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.
Friendly and not expensive (like Rome). People don't try and con you as a tourist. Only issue is that alomost no one speaks English outside of a few folks, but Google translate can help with that :) Defo take the ferry to Porto Fino and stop at the 2 places on the way.

Genova was a beautiful place to visit with heaps of things to do and visit. We ate at local restaurants within walking distance with everything quite accessible. Only problem was that we were unfortunate with the weather and it was quite cold.

Genoa is beautiful city but this hotel is terribly horribly run down. From the entrance, the lobby, the elevators, the corridors and the rooms it is a total disaster. You should stay there or send someone to spend just one night. It should be off your list of hotels. They have not spent one cent on maintenance in many many years.

We love visiting Genova and return for 1-2 night breaks frequently as there is such a range of activities: museums, historic buildings, beaches, port, food, food, food!
We like how the buses, metro and trains match the timings listed on Google Maps, and how easy it is to purchase tickets by card via the ATM Genova app.
The aquarium and the area around the Porto Antico is a must as there is always something going on, like street performers.

Genoa was a nice looking city.
Genoa was a nice looking city. Unfortunately the two+ hours we wasted trying the find the property greatly reduced the amount if time we had to see some sights we wanted to see. We also tried to go to the aquarium but by the time we got there they were sold out for the day. Having only a half day greatly limited the sights we could see. We did go to Laterna and enjoyed the tour and the history of the lighthouse, the second oldest operating lighthouse in the world.

Genova is a beautiful old city with many gorgeous palazzos, churches and interesting streets. The harbour has many ships, historical landmarks and an aquarium. There are restaurants to suit every diner and pocket, from endless street cafes selling pizza and pastries to superb fine dining restaurants offering wonderful seasonal specialties. Great shopping too.
This review relates to the sister hotel Grand Hotel Savoia as we received a complimentary upgrade, also a bottle of wine for our 40th anniversary, so kind. Location right next to main train station perfect & easy, hotel stunning, room was lovely though no pleasant view & a ‘compact’. Breakfasts here are really good, lots of choice and breakfast staff really helpful and pleasant. We took the tourist bus to explore & got off at places of interest, which was helpful.
Lovely studio with loft bedroom in a great walkable location from the old city. Bathroom and main room was nicely decorated and amenitized. We enjoyed our stay here. The beds in Italy were very hard for our liking (we are U.S. citizens), and this was the hardest. But I would recommend this great little place to anyone staying in Genoa. Had a small kitchen in the unit, and laundry facilities in the lobby.
Hotel was beautiful and felt high end the second you walk in. We stayed 4 nights and it was easy to get around the city from the hotel. We walked most places but took buses and metro when tired. Room was large with comfy beds. Breakfast was wonderful every morning… so many choices. The lobby bar was also great— they can make a great cocktail. Hotel was very accommodating to our two young children.
Breakfast was amazing, eggs & bacon on the way to Liguria, my kids were delighted! Room was spacious and beds so very comfortable. Such a convenient location on the way to the Italian coast & Tuscan hills. And such good value. We will definitely plan future car trips to Italy with this hotel in mind, to start the night before, stop at this hotel, and arrive at our destination earlier.
Great and comfortable rooms. The breakfast was very good. The hotel staff was very helpful and gave us warm and cold water for the baby's milk. The beds are comfortable and room service is also very fast. We requested for iron and it was provided within 5 minutes.
We stayed at the hotel and traveled to Santa Margarita and stopped at a few beaches along the way. Was a pleasant stay.
This is a beautifully maintained older style hotel. The bed is comfortable and room and bathroom spotlessly clean. The breakfast was the best value I've encountered in Italy and had an excellent selection of foods, even freshly cooked eggs and bacon. The free minibar was restocked daily and included water, soft drink, savoury and sweet snacks. The old elevator was amazing!
Staff were extremely helpful. Girl at reception showed me places on map to go and see and to eat. Room was very big and had a huge bed and bath with a big tv with Sky Italy. I had a view to harbour that was great (besides the grey bridge that passes by). I would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was great with fresh focaccia which is a must in Genova
Location , only booked as we got stuck an extra day in Genoa , this was the only available location.
Staff where nice they know what they are working with. Room was filthy , Ink on the bed 🤷🏻♂️
Air con like a 747 , fuse box left open outside room.

Located just across the street from one of the two train stations in Genua, Genova Brignole. The hotel is located in a old building. There are some parts of the old hotel still left. That was nice, I recommend to use the old elevator that is located 1/2 stairs up from lobby to get a sense of it's history.
Convenient location, AC worked well, pleasant host Stephanie greeted me at check in and had tips on where to go eat, etc . Not luxurious but perfectly serviceable for a quick night in town before heading to the beaches. The price seemed fair given what other hotels were charging for the same night.
Marco was totally accommodating throughout the process. He helped with planning our arrival and departure by train, was there to meet us and guide us to the lodging. Best part was his recommendation for dining; we had the best meal in all of Italy based on his advice.
As a solo traveller backpacking through Italy this Hotel was just perfect. Clean and with all you need for a good night of rest. Walking distance from the city center. Friendly staff. Will definitely come back if I am in Genova
The hosts were absolutely charming, the accomodation is very clean and nice but also feels like authentic genovese as it is right in the middle of the old quarter. One of the nicest places I have stayed in Italy.
We arrived earlier than the check-in time, but they let us get into the room quickly. The staff were nice and helpful. The hotel is very close to the train station, so it was convenient for us.
Hotel is located in a quiet location with parking on the street which is free from 8pm till 8am. Hotel manager is very kind and eager to help. Rooms were clean and cozy.
