The Hotel&Hostel Montarina occupies a historic Villa built around 1860, only 200 metres from the Lugano train station. I paid for the Hostal version. A room shared with other 16 humans and two bathrooms and two showers shared with 48 other humans. I still managed to shower without queuing. Of course everyone snores and that’s normal. It can’t tolerate that then book a standard hotel room.

Surrounded by a lush garden, the Youth Hostel Locarno is 1.5 km away from the train station and the Lake Maggiore. Excellent breakfast with a very good muesli, tasty bread and cheese. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Offering a ski school and a ski pass sales point, Casa di vacanza Giovanibosco is located in Bosco Gurin, 400 metres from Ski Lift Stafla. Very clean hostel. Also very quiet. The staff (especially Franco) is very kind-hearted.

The Casa Calina is a newly renovated guest house with a large garden in a quiet location in Carona, with beautiful views over Lake Lugano. Free Wi-Fi is available. The location is a bit remote from the city of Lugano, but the views are wonderful and it's surrounded by nature. The house itself is very cozy, welcoming and well maintained.
