The property was amazing, so clean and refreshing from the first step through the door. It feels more like a health retreat than a hotel. Our receptionist/cleaner/assistant went above and beyond in all aspects, she’s a true credit to the place and we couldn’t thank her enough.

The place was lovely and inviting. The hosts greeted us when we came in and made sure everything was according to what we needed. The house is well equipped, especially the kitchen. Nothing was missing. The outside was a dream for our boys: pool, basketball, football, trampoline, archery.
We will certainly come again and recommend to our friends

Nice little Alentejo town.
Nice little Alentejo town.
Very beautiful to walk around with several historic locations for sight seeing. Paço Ducal and the Castle are the best
Plenty of quality offers to eat, like Craft BBS
Several other places of interest close by, all of which you can visit with the kids
The room was comfortable, clean and had a pleasant view of the courtyard. The staff was all very friendly and exceptionally helpful. The hotel itself is part renovated historical buildings and part modern but well integrated into a pleasant environment. You can wonder around the hotel and find something unique, old or quaint around each corner. The location is excellent - just steps away from the Castle and Ducal Palace and a short drive to Borba, Évora and Estremoz. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops and bars in walking distance.
The entire property is elegant, and well maintained. We had the huge studio which opens onto the courtyard, what a beautiful spot to relax and unwind. The hotel owner is an exceptionally lovely lady who told us about the history of the house and of the area. The large studio had good heaters and we were warm, the bed had lots of covers and was cozy for sleeping. The pool is not yet open in March but looked very inviting. We picked oranges, lemons and tangerines from the trees. The breakfast and coffee were very good.
This highly recommended property, is a family country home owned by a truly very lovely couple Maria Joao and Pedro. Surrounded by lovely countryside there are chickens, sheep, a beautiful Alentejo Rafeiro dog Oscar, a tiny dog CeCe. This peaceful property is just 3kms from the small, pretty town of Vila Viçosa. Guests have a large well appointed suite that opens up onto a terrace and a swimming pool. Maria Joao prepares a really superb breakfast. We spent four nights and wish we had stayed a little longer. Next time!
We loved everything, from Karin at the front desk, to the spacious room, the location , the breakfast. Parking easy , 2 min to the square(parked in front on the Palace) The bed super comfortable, crisp white sheets, lovely pillows.
The attention to detail in this hotel is amazing, so much thought has gone into the decor and furniture.
The way the breakfast is laid out , with everything covered and labelled, the presentation is sublime. I loved all the colored furniture, so different from any where else in Portugal.
We have stayed here two or three times before and only go back because they accept dogs. The reception staff are, usually, either rude or just not available. We have had some BAD experiences here.
On this occasion, however, there was a different receptionist, Telma. She was both courteous and efficient. Telma made our stay enjoyable and we would look forward to returning. I think that there has been a management shake up in this hotel. It needed it.
Charming hotel, great location, fantastic staff, excellent breakfast, spotless! Ideal location for visiting Vila Viçosa, Elvas, Evora and Badajoz. I recommend all future guests to take the time to meet and chat with Mrs. Manuela, co-owner of the hotel. A lady of enormous culture and personal knowledge of local and regional history. Friendly and pleasant, Dona Manuela is one more reason to stay at Hotel Colegio Velho!
What a wonderful gem of a hotel! We loved the modern renovation of an ancient building, the delightful indoor and outdoor public spaces and the marble sculptures thand art work on display. Added bonus of complementary tea and cake throughout the day! Breakfast was at least the standard of a good 4-star hotel.
Very big and beautifully decorated historic hotel. The staff is nice and helpful, breakfast has a lot of options and the hotel is right next to the royal palace and the castle. 3 restaurants around the corner. Hard mattresses, perfect for me. The hotel has many leisure rooms and a beautiful patio.
This historical convent was turned into a hotel in the 1990's. The building, with its architecture, murals and courtyards, is charming. However the hotel needs to be updated... new mattresses and modernized bathrooms would be a plus.
The hotel was beautiful and very unique. Our family suite was perfect for a young family and the children loved the pool. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. It was a great hotel and we would definitely recommend.
It's our third stay at this hotel, and improvements still take place. The story behind the walls has not been forgotten, and is only surpassed by the pleasentry of the staff.
Huge space, well taken care of, clean, comfortable. You sit by the window, and the castle of Vila Viçosa is right there across the street. Will return for sure.
Such wonderful, friendly staff who made us feel so welcome in their beautiful and unique hotel. The pool was a glorious respite from the heat. We loved it.
