The Landschaftpark is a fantastic park based on a truly industrial setting. The view from the top of the no.5 blast furnace is excepitional. It's free entry and is only a 1.90 euro tram ride from Hbf.
Wholesome food and their own beer from Brauhaus Webster completed a great day.

This is a place for all seasons.
This is a place for all seasons. The city is hospitable, multicultural and pedestrian friendly. It’s also very dog friendly. I noticed that dogs are allowed in the shopping malls and I saw dogs allowed in almost every shop including department stores.

I didn't go to Duisburg to see the city.
I didn't go to Duisburg to see the city. I went to see the opening night of the opera house's production of Wagner's opera "The Flying Dutchman". The musical and dramatic standard was very high, and it was a most memorable cultural experience. It is not just a beautiful opera house, it offers many fine productions year round. The city is only about 10 minutes from Dusseldorf airport, so easy to get to.
Apart from the Opera House (Theater Duisburg) I can't think of any other reason I would want to visit Duisburg. Pity that Booking.com does not list the opera house as the major cultural venue worth commenting on.

The harbours are awesome.
The harbours are awesome. I have never seen so many ships, cranes , containers in an inland harbour . Really good cycling paths, easy access to the Rhine and Ruhr. Good restaurants. I recommend Mykonos in Meiderich. Very friendly people. Some parts are in need of modernisation. Public transport very good.

What a horrible city!
What a horrible city! I’ve travelled all over Germany, visited at least 50 towns and cities, but I hadn’t been to Duisburg yet, so I figured I’d give it a go. Don’t bother! Apparently it’s one of the poorest cities in Germany and it shows. What a dilapidated, sad city. Even in the city centre there’s buildings that are falling apart, so many empty and abandoned storefronts. Inhabitants of the city appeared sad and bored as well, not exactly the friendliest folks in Germany. Not worth a visit, except for the amazing and free Landschaftspark Duisburg Nord. Definitely hit it up for a visit of an hour or two if you’re in the Ruhr area, it’s worth the drive or ride by public transit, but don’t bother with the rest of the city.
Very convenient location near the train station in Duisburg, close to a street with many shops and restaurants. Additional plus for family rooms - not very common in the hotels in Duisburg. Very good value for money, the room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for 1 night stay. The staff was helpful and when not able to fix our coffee machine, they brought us a kettle to boil hot water instead. Reading through the mixed opinions about breakfast - we decided to skip and eat out in one of the cafes at the train station.
superfriendly staff , stayed with family and had a huge room with 4 beds and babybed and still felt super spatious. Gigantic tv , nice bathroom. Breakfast was better than the standard hotel breakfast. Similar but very good quality. Kids could make their own waffles , which is great. Needs to be repeated that the staff is superfriendly. Only encountered this treatment at 5 star hotels. The price was super good value. Very nice decor as well and free parking at the hotel + checkout until 11. its like hotel heaven
Loved the stay in the apartment, it was very neat and quiet. It literally had everything you need. My wife and daughter were first time in Germany and we all had great time there. If you're planning a trip to Duisburg and you need a place to stay, I highly recommend this place.
This was our 2nd stay at Hotel Plaza. The receptionist was friendly as ever. We ordered Italian from the restaurant just a few minutes away and settled in for a nice evening. We asked for a quiet room and actually was given the same room we stayed in previously! Thumbs up!!
First time staying at the Wyndham Duisburger Hof. Amazing hotel in a great location. The room was very spacious and clean and the shower was great. Very friendly and helpful staff and excellent selection of items at the breakfast buffet (with delicious coffee too!)
Location is the big winner for this hotel, located right next to Duisburg HBF and the city centre. The Intercity is great value for money, added bonus if you are a football fan- MSV Duisburg use this as their team hotel , so keep an eye out on match days.
Spacious and comfortable apartment near the center of Duisburg. Near the main street but no noise; restaurants and shops in walking distance. simple check-in. parking space can be found on nearby streets
With almost everything closed in Duisburg, the hotel was a good comfortable choice- even though we had to order dinner from the outside to the hotel! Very nice and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
The hotel is very nice and well situated. The lobby is a great place to sit and work on a table if needed, assuming it is past breakfast hours. Staff were all very nice and helpful to the max.
