Political centre and favourite residence of Charlemagne, Aachen is located in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region. A spa town since Ancient Roman times, it has some of the hottest springs in Europe. Its Old Town keeps important architectonic jewels, such as the Cathedral ordered by Charlemagne in 786, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With a unique mix of styles, the Cathedral is the final resting place for Charlemagne’s remains, and served as coronation church for 30 German kings and 12 queens. Guest houses and hotels in Aachen’s historic centre are a romantic way of enjoying the city.
The RWTH University is one of the country’s ‘Universities of Excellence’, part of the technologic profile of a city that is regarded as one of the most innovative in Germany. In fact, a large number of Aachen hotels have congress facilities.
It is located 65 km from Cologne and 40 km from Maastricht/Aachen Airport. Connections to major European capitals are available from the central railway station, while several hotels nearby will help you to avoid the last-minute rush.

Only stayed one night, hotel was clean and tidy with everything you need. Only slight complaints (if you could call them complaints) were small car park so later check ins struggled to park and the restaurant had a small limited menu (the food we had was really good). As we were only there one night we didn't pay the extra 3.50euro to use the pool.

Aachen is right at the northern end of Germany before you cross over into the Netherlands and struggles to attract visitors who are mainly just passing through. That doesn’t make it a bad place but I wouldn’t go there specially.

Aachen has a lot of important and interesting history to offer. But this is not the only reason to visit the city as it is one of the few places left in what could be called the old Germany, a country of tradition, character and values. It was refreshing to find that this still exists in possibly Europe's strongest country.

Aachen is older than the Hungarian statehood itself.
Aachen is older than the Hungarian statehood itself. A wondrous city just next to the German-Dutch-Belgian border tripoint. I am Hungarian, and it was great to see how much it is connected to Hungary. We are about a thousand kilometres from my hometown, yet it was great to see Saint Stephen I in the garden of the cathedral, the statue of St. Ladislaus inside the Hungarian chapel. That was founded by Louis I (Louis the Great) of Hungary in the 1370s. My favourite place was the cathedral. I have also been to the tripoint itself.

We went to Aachen for the Christmas market, so we only stayed for one night. All in all, that part of our trip was worth it.
That being said, Aachen, when compared to cities of similar size, didn't leave a good impression. Especially the graffiti (not the good kind) around every corner is jarring.

The Christmas markets and the traditional restaurants were worth travelling for.
The cathedral interior is stunning.
Finding everything within easy walking distance, and I dont enjoy walking!!, was a bonus. You can park you car on arrival and return to it the say you leave.
Very nice hotel in new building. Great value for money and quality, which you can appreciate given that it is part of the Hitlon group. Excellent staff members all round that went out of their way to make our stay special and address certain needs that we had. The staff really care and have the flexibility to give the guests a good experience. Nice breakfast was provided was provided until 11:00, which is great for a weekend family trip.
Wonderful! The family room is a complete apartment with two bedrooms, a living room, and a full kitchen. Breakfast was excellent, with a large variety of fresh offerings. The reserved parking space had a very reasonable charge, and was in a locked, private garage. Close enough to walk to the central Aachen. If we return to Aachen, we'll return to this hotel.
Its a spacious well fitted out attic apartment, very warm (in February) and exceptionally quiet, looking out over woodland. Our host was amazingly helpful. We hired bikes and explored the Vennbahn cycle track and commuting into Aachen city centre or by train to Cologne was incredibly easy.
The hotel is in a perfect location for visiting and exploring Aachen by foot. The city center, a wide variety of restaurants, malls and department stores are all within reach. It is a modern hotel with a comfortable bed, large shower, free wifi and even a free mini bar during our stay.
The hotel itself is a great place, nice rooms, good breakfast and the most important: Very friendly and motivated staff! The location is also very good, you can walk directly into city center of Aachen.
Two minutes from railway station, very close to city centre. Room clean, comfortable and very adequate. Breakfast good, not exceptional but it didn’t need to be, b&b cost was extremely acceptable.
We stayed two nights and were happy with the hotel, the room and the staff. Very convenient parking in the (public) parking garage under the hotel. Easy walking distance to the city centre.
It is good for a budget hotel. It is impossible to find a free parking in a radius of 2 KM, so expect to pay 12 Euro per day if you come with a car. It was clean and has a small tv.
Location right beside rail station. Short walk to old city centre.
Dorm room bright, clean, 4 beds and bathroom.
Paid €16 on Sat night and €13 Sun! Very hard to beat that value!
This hotel is in a great location, walkable to the city center (cathedral, Christmas market, etc, and the main train station). Lift to upper floors available.
