Lovely historic old building with acres of public rooms and extensive garden area; like staying in a palace rather than a monastery. Our room was in the modern wing with up to date facilities and had a fantastic view over the city. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of car parking.

Unfortunate with the weather, rained 90% in 8 days, however the whitewashed walls and decor of the villa together with mountainous views kept spirits high. Slightly misleading with the photos is that you are unable to view the pool from the accommodation- look at the villa as an annexe (substantial at that) with the main house in between pool and annexe. The owners were away whilst we were there and weather bad so beautiful infinity / jacuzzi pool never used, however I get the impression this area would possibly not be accessible if the owners were present or at worse case -shared - best to check beforehand - most helpful hosts. Many beautiful ornaments within villa and stairs down to underbuild / snug would not be suitable for young children.

I'm Portuguese therefore I know all the country and to me Guimarães is, along with Porto, the most beautiful city in my country! It's historical centre is magnificent! The castle, the palace, Largo da Oliveira and the surrounding streets and historical buildings make us feel like we are in the middle ages! It's truly magical!

Historic Center is good with lots of restaurants and courtyards. The cable car to the top of the mountain is a must do. It is 7.5 euros return. Residents take a lot of pride in their city. Most of the tourists are Portueguese . Prices are less than in the Algarve. Appears to be great bus service, but everything within walking distance.

Guimarães is an acient town where Portugal originated. It is quite small. It's enough for the Visitors who don't have any specific plans to spend 1 whole day to see all the most important historical sites in this city.

Some locals call it "The Heart of Portugal" because what became the country of Portugal began it's fight for liberation from Moorish Occupation here. The castle from then is still standing and is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The old city center is nicely preserved and is very walkable. Regional food is hearty and very tasty. While it is touristy, it is also a university city. Pretty lively with a good range of affordability in eating, staying, and shopping.

Guimaraes was a lovely historical town with a lot to see just walking around - historical churches, lots of restaurants and pretty sites. We went to Citania de Briterios (2,000 year old Celtic village) - a short drive away - and loved it. We could have spent longer here.
I had a wonderful experience staying in the hotel Toural. The overall sense of the historical building and the view of the square is pretty cool.
The stuff was superb! The receptionist assisted us in applying for lost luggage, and the waiter in the breakfast area was super attentive!
The continental breakfast was of high quality. Freshly squized juice, cakes, and omelette were welcomed compared to a low quality buffet.
The room was spacious, and the mattress of high quality allowed a good night sleep.
This is the utmost experience in Northern Portugal in the most beautiful country mansion ! in the natural outskirts of Guimarães remains a rare and hidden beauty… the manor is in original 18th beauty surrounded by a luxuriant landscape … the host has an elegant simplicity perfectly matching this unique mansion and the personnel serving you breakfast shows the utmost care …
Casa de Sezim is the ideal combination of elegant sophistication and natural beauty !
We will definitely return to Casa de Sezim ….
We had a lovely room on the first floor. At check in, the receptionist changed the room so that we did not have to carry our luggage up more floors -the hotel does not have a lift. Staff were helpful with explanation of parking arrangements and with storage of bags whilst we went sight seeing. Car parking is great value. The hotel is in a great location, a short walk to the old town and to an excellent restaurant, which we had booked. There was a simple continental breakfast.
Location is perfect in the centre of Guimarães. The room is nice with space to move around. The hotel was a bank and was a historical place. It has been renovated especially the bathroom area. I guess the table in the room was the old desk used by the teller which if true is amazing. It has double window to ensure the room was quiet even facing the main street. Breakfast included was fine.
Hospitality taken to new levels. We were greeted in person by the owner with an amazing display of kindness, courtesy and generosity. The space and facilities newly renovated and well kept, the stocked fridge, and the beautiful garden, everything bears evidence of care and delivers a wholesome experience. I'll happily return on every trip to Guimaraes if I can.
I liked everything very much! The hotel is super, the spa is super, the location is excellent, the room service is excellent. I was a little surprised by the indifferent service in the hotel bar and restaurant (if we hadn’t persistently asked, they wouldn’t have sold us anything))) it was strange. We didn’t manage to have dinner at the hotel restaurant
We loved everything about Villa Margaridi - a perfect location around Guimarães, great facilities and definitely the BEST host. Jose is an amazing and interesting person, and a superb host that thinks of his guests all the time.
Words can not express how welcomed we felt at the property, it was truly a unique and lovely experience.
This is a nice hotel in Guimaraes. Is located in the monastery and, at least in our case, were able to sleep in the rooms were the monks used to sleep in the past. The room was very nice, comfortable and quiet. The surroundings of the hotel are very nice and is a pleasure to walk them.
Perfect location. Spacious room. Super clean. Amazing host - thank you Fatima. Our room and kitchen were fully equipped and there was not a thing that Fatima had not thought of to make our 6 day stay in stunning Guimaraes so memorable. We could not have wanted anything more.
A well done renovation to an old building. The owner also runs a restaurant next door and the food is authentic Guimaraes cuisine. Private
gated parking made leaving to explore the nearby attractions pleasant since I did not have to worry about finding parking.
The hotel was in a wonderful location. staff helpful and courteous. The only issue was there was some type of flying insect that was in our room, particularly the bathroom that made us uncomfortable. The room was spacious and comfortable otherwise.
Breakfast is good. The location is right across street from railway station. You can walk for 10 minutes to the city center. Parking is easy in the residence community behind the hotel. The manager is very kind and speaks English.
An amazing, renovated historical property in Guimarães, PT owned by the professional tennis player João Sousa. It retains the historical flavor with very comfortable, modern amenities and cheeky tennis references throughout.
Clean and spacious hotel with comfortable room and the restaurant on the very top of the building with amazing panorama over the mountains. Not far from the castle and the town centre.
Very nice hotel tucked away in a quiet corner but close to everything in this great town. Friendly staff and excellent breakfast served by attentive ladies. Clean and spacious room.
I liked the service from the reception, the availability of a few free parking spaces in front of the hotel, as well as the proximity with a supermarket and the historic city center.
