Albergo Il Marzocco, hotel in Montepulciano

Located within the medieval walls of Montepulciano, the 16th-century Albergo Il Marzocco is the oldest hotel in town.

Our booking was not made correctly(instead of one person per room, it was booked two people per room), the hotel owner took time and changed the booking at the time of check-in, so that we don't need to pay too much, which we found very honest and very kind of the owner. The room was quiet and nice, the breakfast was also very good.

History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano.

History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano. My husband and I are sommeliers, art and history lovers. This town delivers on all scores and the locals are incredibly inviting and friendly - even more than the typical Italian standard. This town constantly has cultural and musical events, some serious and others simply fun in nature. Wineries close by, and the wine bars, closer.

Montepulciano is beautiful and old and hilly and kind of mysterious. It's fun to walk around – although your legs get sore! All the old buildings and streets and alleys were super cool. It was also great being in the heart of wine country. We'd heard a lot about Italian hospitality but didn't get a whole lot of that – it was still fun to explore ourselves, thpough.

The setting was breathtaking. The accommodation was picture book perfect and included free parking! The views from the bell tower, directly across the piazza, made the climb worth every step! Highly recommended but allow yourself a minimum of a two night stay!

We had the great fortune of stumbling into the start of their week-long Bravio delle Botti festivities in which the neighborhoods compete against one another to roll wine barrels up the steep streets of the historical center. We got to see fantastic performances by the drum and flagwaving groups, have fantastic dinners put on by each of the 8 neighborhoods (contrade), and enjoy some shows put on in the Piazza Grande. The town itself is steep and filled with cantinas. Gorgeous historical hill town surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves. It's Tuscany at its finest. Fairly well touristed, so be cognizant of prices and a few tourist traps, but otherwise very pleasant.

Montepulciano is a small town and everything is within walking distance, but it's very hilly (up and down). There are several good dining/drinking options (Trattoria di Cagnano on via Dell'Opio Nel Corsa was great for a late dinner!) and good for shops (tourist and retail/clothing/leather). Wine tasting is a must too (great wine options by the glass at the Montepulciano fortress and Enoliteca on via Di Gracciano Nel Corso)

This is a very nice city, however not for the faint of heart. You have to be in good shape as you are walking steep up hill to get to the top of the city. The main street is downhill, so if you happen to stay in a hotel at the top of the hill, you are constantly walking up and down to get anywhere. There is some paid parking at the top, the rest of the parking is down the hill. It is a nice city to visit for the day, not worth staying overnight. There are some wine stores, I recommend Talosa,(off a side street near Piazza grande) they have a wine cellar worth looking at as it is an old tunnel built during WWII. Sales girl was very friendly and helpful

Located in a quiet area inside the historic quarter. Excellent decor and well equipped kitchen to cook your own tuscan recipes accompanied with robust wines from the region that you can purchase easily from tasting rooms next to the building. Parking facility is nearby. Shops and numerous restaurants you can walk to will complement the facilities to make your stay in Montepulciano one to cherish for a long time after you are gone. We will definitely come back next time we are in the Toscana region of Italy.

Really character filled location right in Montepulciano. The rooms are quite a good size. Breakfast room is very quaint and we had a really nicer breakfast laid out each morning. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Location is awesome but worth checking the road routes in the town. We had a BMW X5 and it was pretty tights driving but fun. the views are stunning from the property from both side, moving and night. The hotel has a wine bar / restaurant attached which is handy for a meal / drink.

Perfect location and nice, spacious room. You have also the ability to sit outside in the backyard, surrounded by trees and enjoying peaceful stay. Montepulciano is one of those really beautiful and calm town, offering you great wine and welcoming people around. The place is practically in the center of the town, easy to walk everywhere. Staff was also very nice and helpful, easy WhatsApp communication. Really recommending, it was a nice stop on our honeymoon journey through Italy.

Breakfast is OK, but served late from 8:30am which would be OKif there is coffee maker in the room. Being early birds we want coffee or tea as we wake up. Ramona is very friendly and served us coffee when we accidentally showed up at 8:00am. The free pick up from Montepulciano main entrance was nice and made it easy to get to the hotel. Frank who picked us up also helped us carry our luggage to our room on 2nd floor since there is no lift on the property.

A budget / basic family hotel, effectively in the centre of Montepulciano, run with passion and love. One feels like at home. Excellent advices, assistance and attitude (personal care) from the side of the owners - one does not see this very often either in Italy, or in other countries. Very comfortable mattresses. Own parking. Breakfast exceeds the standards not only of 2*, but even of many 3* hotels in Italy.

We like the room, extra clean (they are cleaning the room everyday, changing towels etc.), the staff was very nice and friendly, lots of parking spaces, wonderful outside terrace, italian breakfast, our Beagle was happy (pet friendly hotel), beautiful area (we recommend Pienza, Val d'Orcia, all off Tuscany, the local Montepulciano wine). We loved it so much that we extend the stay. Just loved it!!!

Absolutely beautiful. Montepulciano is one of the most stunning places in Italy. The staff were great and suggested a wine bar for dinner and reserved it for us. The chef in the morning made a fantastic breakfast. The room was spacious and beautifully designed. The hotel is in the best location, overlooking the main plaza area where movies have been filmed. Exceeded our expectations.

A lovely 6 bedroom Palazzo in the heart of Montepulciano's Centro Storico. Family run hotel, very nice and friendly staff. Room was lovely, with a window overlooking the historic district and steps from the main square and Cantucci winery. Would definitely recommend. It was super hot during our stay in Montepulciano and the hotel's air conditioning worked perfectly.

This is a lovely family-owned farm with a nice restaurant and a lovely view! Especially at sunset. Our a/c was giving problems and they attended to it immediately. And went out of their way to help us when we needed early checkout. It is close enough to Montepulciano, but you need a car. This was not a problem for us. One of the highlights of my trip to Italy!

Stelle Di Monte was by far the best hotel during our 2 weeks visit to Tuscany. Nathalie and Igor are the best and they will make you feel home. The rooms are very nice, location is great (just few minutes driving to Montepulciano), and the view is amazing. Igor is a fantastic Chef and prepared the best dinner we had in our trip.
