The place was amazing and it looked like a little palace from the outside. The hosts were really nice and accommodating. Every morning they prepared a tasty breakfast based on our wishes. The room was clean and tidy, the bathroom was huge and luxurious - we loved it! The location was perfect - quiet, surrounded by nature, yet close to the little fairy town Ballater which you can reach within 5-10 min walking.

Very well situated, the property itself is very welcoming, comfortable and a nice place to stay overall.
This former church has been tastefully converted, enabling retention of the original features. Auld Kirk Hotel is situated in the heart of picturesque Royal Deeside.

Ballater is a lovely little town, very close to the Balmoral Estate so excellent location if you are planning to visit the Castle and grounds of the royal estate. It has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique / gift shops to choose from. Free parking in most places and some lovely walks that are all clearly marked that follow the river and circulate the town.

Ballater is a beautiful historic town.
Ballater is a beautiful historic town. It has lovely architecture, a Victorian train station where Queen Victoria used to travel to. Lots of restaurants, pubs, and the townspeople are very nice. It's close to Balmoral and was a perfect location to drive around and see the sites.

Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

Martyn and Louise were very nice and accommodating. The rooms are large and very well appointed nice art and antiques throughout. The bed was luxurious and the shower was huge with multiple heads. We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night. Monty the dog was a sweetheart and the breakfast was by far the best we've had in Scotland. Would highly recommend!
We were warmly welcomed as we arrived on our cycles, even though we were quite wet. Our host washed and dried our cycle gear and looked after us very well.
This area is very expensive for accommodation, but we felt against this background we chose well.
Highly recommend for those cycling Lands End to John O'Groats as the host is very cycle friendly!
We were traveling through Scotland for a week and this was definitely our best staying. The bed is VERY comfortable and our room was so nice decorated. We could rest after a long trip and the next town is very close by car. This hotel had this nice royal atmosphere. We would love to come back 👌🏻
Walking distance to almost everything I needed in the village shopping area. The proximity to Balmoral Castle really surprised me too. Well manicured and very quiet neighbourhood, exactly what I wanted for a good break. Full marks to the self-catering facilities and cottage arrangement.
Very friendly & helpful staff. Hotel has had a refresh recently, bathrooms are like new with great water pressure, spot on after day on hills. Very comfortable bed and dog Friendly. Fire on on lobby and lounge, just a brilliant stay all round
Located in lovely village of Ballater on a quit street 5 mins walk from the village square and amenities. Very clean and dog friendly. Hosts left us a lovely complimentary bottle of organic wine for us on arrival.
Our trip was for 20 days and some 18 nights. Of the 7 Hotels/B&Bs we stayed at the Balmoral Arms had the best breakfast hands down of all 7 establishments. Order the Eggs Benedict, you will not be disappointed.
Lovely room, very comfortable bed, good bathroom and shower. Excellent location and free parking right out front. The breakfast was the best we had in Scotland. Wonderful host couple running the establishment.
The Alexandra Hotel is a gem. The location is fantastic. The food is delicious. The staff is welcoming and accommodating. It is clean and well maintained. If you go to Ballater this is a great choice.
